Director of Educational Services
Salary: 50K – 55K
Reports to: Executive Director
The Youth Empowerment Mission, Inc. (YEM) is seeking a skilled, energetic and dedicated individual to join our management team in the role of Director of Educational Services. One of our major goals for this year is to expand and improve the quality of our educational services program. Because we work with youth in crisis, youth offenders under the care of the juvenile justice system, and youth at highest risk for delinquency, the academic needs of our participants go beyond those of other students. We are seeking a visionary, entrepreneur-minded professional to develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that is linked with State education standards and graduation requirements and meets the unique needs of our students.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Executive Director, advisory committee, consultants and other stakeholders to implement an improvement plan for our educational services department.
- Design and implement an educational services curriculum that is linked to the NYC DOE curriculum, graduation requirements
- Design and implement a career readiness curriculum that focuses on career exploration, job skills development and computer training
- Integrate educational services with other YEM programs in the areas of behavioral health, leadership, service learning and mentoring.
- Supervise a staff of teachers, youth development professionals, tutors, interns and volunteers to design, deliver and measure the impact of educational services provided to youth.
- Cultivate relationships with DOE staff, including principals, parent coordinators, and administrators, to coordinate in-school and out-of-school services for youth.
- Conduct educational advocacy on behalf of participants and collaborate with YEM’s case management team to meet the needs of program participants.
- Oversee program evaluation, including tracking, measurement and reporting specific programmatic outcomes to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, funders, and other strategic partners.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in education or related field, Master’s preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered. Teaching experience preferred.
- Direct experience developing and delivering educational programs for high-risk teens; experience in out-of-school-time settings preferred
- Strong understanding of educational policy, including DOE curricula and graduation requirements
- Supervisory and management experience is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of trends in education, career exploration and educational planning
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to work with low-income youth and families
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to contribute to the growth of an emerging youth organization.
